For councils
Bin Space tells Australians which bins go out and when - with evening-before reminders - built from the schedules councils publish. We cover most of the country today, and every answer links back to the council data it came from.
Your logo on your residents' bin schedule - free
Your residents are already using an app to work out which bin goes out. It may as well be one with your name on it. Tell your residents about Bin Space - a link on your waste page, a line in the newsletter, a mention when someone calls about a missed bin - and we'll put your council in front of every household in your area, at no cost to you.
You don't have to make Bin Space your official app. There's nothing to sign, no tender, no decision of council. Promote it where your residents already look and the branding goes on.
Your logo sits on the schedule your residents open on bin night. Tapping it opens your page - your logo, your description, and as many links as you want to give them.
What your residents get
- Your logo on the bin schedule. Not a banner ad - a mark on the screen they already open, saying this schedule comes from you.
- A council page inside the app. Your logo, a description you write, and any number of links: hard waste bookings, what-goes-where, transfer station hours, public holiday changes, the missed-collection form. Whatever your call centre gets asked for most.
- Only your residents see it. The branding follows the address. A household inside your boundary sees your council; nobody else's does.
What it costs
Nothing. No setup fee, no charge per resident, no contract, no lock-in. Bin Space earns its living from neighbours trading spare bin room with each other, not from councils - so putting your name on the schedule genuinely costs you nothing, and we'd rather have accurate data and a council that stands behind it.
Ask us to take the branding down and it comes down. Your residents keep the app either way, and we keep answering for your addresses from what you publish - your logo adds your name to that, it doesn't hold it hostage.
What we'd ask from you
One thing in return, and then the practical bits we need to build it:
- A mention wherever residents already look for bin information - your waste page, a newsletter, a social post, the message callers hear on hold. That's the only thing we ask in return for the branding.
- Your logo, a short description, and the links you want residents to have. We can't build your page without them.
- Someone we can email when the calendar changes, so nobody sees a wrong day.
- Your collection data in a form we can read - see below. Not a condition of anything, but it's the part that matters most for your residents.
We'd build your council page with you, so tell us what your residents actually ask for and we'll shape it around that. Email us with Council branding in the subject and we'll come back to you with what it would look like for your area. And if your council does want to go further and call Bin Space its official bin app, we'd be glad to - it just isn't the price of the logo.
Why work with us
- Fewer missed-bin calls. Residents who get a reminder the evening before put the right bin out on the right day.
- Accuracy you control. When you tell us about a calendar change before it lands, your residents never see a wrong day.
- Your data stays yours. We read what you publish and we say so - the coverage page names the source for every council we answer for.
The single most useful thing you can do
Publish your collection data somewhere we can read it. In practice two files are enough for us to answer every address in your council:
- Your zone or route boundaries as GeoJSON, KML or a shapefile, with the zone name in a field - not just drawn on a map image.
- A dated calendar per zone - which weeks are which, for actual dates, not just "week A/week B". A machine-readable file is gold; even a clearly dated PDF works.
If you already have an address lookup on your website, that works too - tell us where it lives. And if your area has streets or localities with quirks (split services, rural runs, two-day streets), a street list settles what a boundary can't.
Want it on your own website too?
Some councils want the schedule and the reminders on their own site, under their own name, as the official answer there as well. That's a conversation we'd genuinely like to have. Tell us what your residents ask for and we'll show you what we could do together.
Get in touch
Email support@bin-space.app - put Council branding in the subject if you want your council on the schedule, or Council partnership if it's about the data. Tell us which council you're from and point us at whatever you have - a file, a link, or just a question. A real person reads every message, usually within one business day.
