Privacy Policy
Bin Space is operated by Great Southern Software Pty Ltd (ABN 11 700 174 787), an Australian company ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the Bin Space app and website, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We handle personal information under the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
The short version: we collect what the service needs to work and nothing more, we never sell personal information, there is no advertising or ad tracking in Bin Space, we measure how our website is used but never link that to your account, and you can delete your account from inside the app.
1. What we collect
- Account details - your name, email address, and optionally a phone number, when you create an account (directly or via Google or Apple sign-in).
- Addresses - the address(es) you register, so we can show your council collection schedule and place your listings on your street.
- Listings and bookings - the listings you create (including the photo of your bin you may attach - our app strips any location metadata from photos before upload), the bookings you make, and messages or reasons you submit (for example when reporting a problem).
- Payment and payout information - wallet top-ups, bookings paid, and payouts. Card details go directly to Stripe, our payment processor; we never see or store your card number. If you sell bin space, Stripe collects identity and bank details from you to meet its legal (KYC) obligations.
- Device and notification data - a push-notification token for your device if you enable reminders, crash reports (via Google's Firebase Crashlytics) so we can fix failures, and basic technical logs (IP address, app version, timestamps) generated by using the service.
- Website analytics - when you visit our public website (www.bin-space.app), Google Analytics records the pages you view, roughly where in the world you are (country and city, worked out from your IP address, which we never see), which site referred you, and the type of device and browser you used. It sets cookies on your browser to recognise a repeat visit. This tells us which pages are worth keeping. It runs on the marketing website only - not inside the app, and not when you are signed in at app.bin-space.app - and it is never joined to your account, your address, or anything you do in the marketplace.
- Location - only if you grant it, to confirm you are at your address when you create a listing (shown to buyers as a "location verified" badge - never as your position) and to suggest nearby listings. You can use Bin Space fully without granting location access.
2. How we use it
To provide the service: showing your bin schedule, running the marketplace, processing payments and payouts, sending the notifications you ask for, keeping the neighbourhood marketplace safe (fraud and abuse prevention, moderation of reported content), and meeting our legal obligations (tax and financial record-keeping).
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising. There are no ad networks or advertising trackers in the app or on our websites. Our website analytics are deliberately kept to counting: Google Signals, ads personalisation and data sharing with Google's advertising products are all switched off on our Analytics property, so the measurement cannot be turned into ad targeting. If you would rather not be counted at all, Google publishes a browser opt-out add-on, and any browser setting or extension that blocks analytics scripts will stop the measurement outright.
3. Who sees your address
Your exact address is shown to the other party of a booking only after the booking is confirmed between you. Before that, browsers of the marketplace see only an approximate location (street or suburb level).
4. Who we share information with
Only the service providers that make Bin Space work:
- Google (Firebase Authentication, Cloud services, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Firebase Crashlytics, Google Analytics) - sign-in, hosting, push notifications, crash reporting, and website visitor statistics.
- Stripe (Stripe Payments Australia Pty Ltd and its affiliates) - payments, wallets and seller payouts, including Stripe's own identity verification for sellers.
- Professional advisers or authorities where the law requires it.
Some of these providers process data outside Australia (principally the United States). We rely on their contractual safeguards and certified security programmes when they do (APP 8).
5. How long we keep it
Account information is kept while your account is active. Records of transactions (bookings, wallet movements, payouts) are kept for seven years after they occur, as Australian tax and financial law requires - even if you delete your account. Everything else is deleted or de-identified when no longer needed.
6. Delete your account
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app: menu → Delete account. See Delete your account for the full steps, what's removed, what we have to keep, and how to ask us to do it for you if you can't access the app.
7. Your other rights
You may ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it (most of it you can view and edit directly in the app). Email support@bin-space.app - we respond within 30 days.
8. Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit (TLS). Data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure with access limited to what operating the service requires. Payment card data never touches our systems (it goes directly to Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 provider).
9. Age
Bin Space involves payments between neighbours, so it is for people 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
10. Complaints
If you think we've mishandled your personal information, email support@bin-space.app and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
11. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect and keep earlier versions available. Non-material clarifications take effect when published.
